1. What made you choose Karla Mason Boudoir?

I think it’s really important to seek out experts in fields if you want the best results. Could you find a different boudoir photog for less? Sure, but will they have the same quality, experience and result? Absolutely not. So I had a lot of friends who had gone to Karla prior and had a fantastic experience, even 5/6 years ago. So when going into this, I knew I had to go with Karla. I wanted the best and she provides just that. Untouchable.

2. What were you nervous about going into your session?

I’m on a journey to love my body for all it has done for me. Aren’t we all? And after fighting years of body dismorphia, eating disorders and just diseased thoughts against my body, I’ve arrived at a place of understanding that this will be my body for the rest of my life so it needs to be celebrated. It will carry me no matter how I feel about it. Even with the work I’ve done, there are parts of my body I still hesitate to show whether that’s my pouch from carrying my babies or the looser skin from losing and gaining weight constantly over my 30 years. I was nervous that was all I would see in my photos and that I’d feel uncomfortable showing any part of them during the session. With Karlas guidance though, we were able to work together to find outfits I not only looked great in but FELT great in. 

3. What was your favorite part of the experience?

I think it’s hard to even choose a specific part. The hair and makeup artists were incredible; fast, perfected and personable. I loved being dolled up. I got to see pieces of Karlas life as I was getting done up and chat with everyone which was another favorite part. The session itself came with such ease. Choosing outfits that I wouldn’t normally have for myself was a fun, Barbie-esque, experience that I loved. I mean where else do you come into a room with a wardrobe chosen specific for you and your body? It’s a celebrity experience. And Karla is just a fantastic, sweet, lovely person and she’s also hilarious. It was all my favorite. I don’t think I could choose a specific ONE part. The reveal was also fantastic. I loved being able to have my hubby there to see her work as well since he wasn’t at the session. 

4. How do you feel now that you’ve completed the session?

I feel incredibly empowered after finishing the session experience and buying my products. I did this to celebrate my 30th birthday and I wish I had done one in my 20s. I plan to do one every decade at a minimum. I think it’s easy to write something like this off as unimportant or “too expensive” but having the opportunity to love your body outside of societal standards, prying eyes, judgement, to do it for YOU and see yourself through someone who knows bodys eyes is truly invaluable. I feel even closer to loving my body wholly and I’ve gotta thank Karla for that.

I’ve already recommended her to EVERYONE. Between her personality, professionalism and perfection you WILL NOT regret booking KMB. It really is a full experience to reconnect more deeply with yourself and parts of your sexuality that may be closed off, shamed or unaccepted.
